This is the first in a series of Remote & Human People where we discover & celebrate the many ways that we work remotely!

MEET CAROLINE SCOTT
ROLE:
Video Producer
BUSINESS:
MY CAREER SO FAR:
I'm a broadcast journalist who has ended up in the tech space! I specialize in mobile content creation and have trained thousands of journalists to tell stories with their smart phones. Now I’m a professional YouTuber and I show content creators around the world how to connect with their audiences with video.
HOW I WORK
I shoot and edit video all day – I'm based in Bromley near London but I work full-time for a company based in Seattle, USA. My role is to produce video content to promote LumaFusion, a mobile video editing app for professional video production on the go.
I usually work at Contingent works, Bromley – a 10 minute drive from my house.
I share my work space with other members of the Coworking space – and my dog Ted!
HOW I MAKE WFH WORK FOR ME
THE BIGGEST WIN FOR ME IS:
Being flexible with my hours. I work around my other passions – mainly CrossFit!
THIS IS HOW I CONNECT LIKE A HUMAN WITH MY REMOTE COLLEAGUES:
We do two zoom meetings a week, but we send each other messages all the time, mainly funny memes!
I FUEL MY MIND & BODY BY:
Regular walks around the block, going to the gym and of course coffee!
THIS IS HOW I MAKE IT COUNT WHEN WE GET TOGETHER IN PERSON:
When I go to America, at least once a year, I spend all of my day in the office with my colleagues – and I tried to socialise with them outside as well. Rock climbing, going to pubs etc.
MY TOP TIP FOR ANYONE WHO WORKS REMOTELY IS:
Create a routine for yourself that fits in with your life, but also keeps you accountable to your job. You'll feel better for it.
THE DOWNSIDES OF BEING REMOTE
THE THING I STRUGGLE WITH MOST IS:
Meeting other professionals. I would like to get to know others in the same space as me – as well as other people who I can learn from outside of my industry.
I'VE EXPERIENCED CAREER CHALLENGES WHERE:
I work alone a lot of the time so it is challenging to create a space for myself where I am learning from others.
I SELF SABOTAGE & DOUBT MYSELF WHEN:
I think when you are really good at something, you then find it easy and almost forget it's a valuable skill! So I think I doubt myself when I'm around people that have opposing skills to me - I forget that actually I have a lot to offer them too!
MY WORST WFH HABIT IS:
Going home at the end of my shift – sometimes I'm tempted to carry on working and forget to give myself time at the end of the day.
THIS IS WHAT I'M TRYING TO IMPROVE AT THE MO:
I would like to meet more people and get myself a professional community. Co-working spaces are fantastic but I think it's rare to actually have friends or colleagues there that you just organically meet. For example, unless you bump into someone at the coffee machine, people don't really speak much. And I bet everybody has such an amazing skill set and story to tell!
THIS IS HOW I CAN HELP YOU!
MY SKILLS / SERVICES:
I can show you how to shoot and edit professional video on your smartphone, I run training courses freelance 1:1 or for companies and groups. I also take on some video production jobs freelance!
